Last year Calgary Swims for Lunch accomplished our goal! With the help of many Calgarians, we were able to run our volunteer-based program impacting the Forest Lawn community. Our program aims to educate Calgary's youth, teaching water safety and developing confident and skillful swimmers. Our program is also dedicated to addressing and solving hunger; as the school year lunch programs wrap up for the summer holidays, we are there to support Calgary's youth. We are there to provide reliable and healthy lunches following our water skills. We are excited to continue offering Calgary's youth a chance to participate in a skill-based structured program for lunch. We hope to empower Calgary's youth with learning and/or developing their water safety knowledge and skills, without the barriers of hunger and registration costs.
Donations will be used primarily for lunch items, such as purchasing meat and cheese, or other protein foods, currently impossible to source by donated or rescued food. Any funds raised that are not immediately needed for lunches will be used towards water safety education and skill improvement. Equipment will help instructors demonstrate boating and ice safety (mats, floatables) as well as fins to help the older kids strengthen their strokes. Providing lunches and high quality water safety skills is our main focus for summer, 2017; any and all donations will help us continue to operate and cover our administrative, registration, and insurance fees.
If you or your company are interested in sponsoring a lunch next summer, please get in touch with us! We are interested in partnerships with local food suppliers and food donations. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Calgary Swims For Lunch will run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 12:00pm-1:00pm. July will be open for Ages 7-17 during those times. Pre-registration and waiver forms are required for participation. Space is limited and based on the number of volunteers! Youth do not have to participate for the entire summer, once they hand in their waiver they are free to drop in for lunch during July and August, however, notice for in water participation will be required.
